The Last Obstacle
by Brittany Ziegel

It was a cold, cold day in Poplar Bluffs, Missouri and I was looking for my dog, Maddie. Why was I looking for my dog at 8:30 at night when I had school tomorrow? Well, let me start from the beginning.

My family just moved to Missouri last week and I was walking to my first day of school when Billy (the biggest bully in school) came up and pushed me in a mud puddle. If it were any other kid I would have probably shoved him back, but since he has very rare magical powers, and he could ruin the rest of my life I decided to hold back. That's how we started out being worst enemies. So I ran the rest of the way to school so he wouldn't push me again and so I wouldn't be late. When school was finally over I ran home to walk my new puppy Maddie.

The next morning I brought Maddie to school with me. My neighbor Alexia was walking with us. She was bringing Liz her pet iguana with her. She was probably my only friend. Everyone was bringing pets to school because it was bring your pet to school day. Once we got to school everyone thought that Maddie was the cutest, especially Billy, for some reason. (He brought his pet bullldog). When lunchtime came we had to leave our pets in the classroom. At lunch everyone was bragging about their pets so there were a lot of arguments. Billy got a little to carried away and had to stay with the first graders when our class went to the library after lunch. When we got back from the library it was time to go home so everyone grabbed their pets and left. Except me. No matter where I looked I couldn't find Maddie. I looked all over the school and I still couldn't find her. My teacher said that Maddie probably escaped through one of the doors and to go look outside. So that's how I ended up looking for Maddie at 8:30 in the evening.

When I got home, there, sitting in my driveway, was Billy. He said, "I know where your dog is."

" Where?" I demanded.

" Meet me here at 4:30 tomorrow morning and I'll show you." He said and with that he left.

I ran over to Alexia's house to tell her what happened she said she would come with me. When I got into my house my parents started yelling at me so I had to explain to them what happened. I left out the part about the next morning and Billy.

So the next morning Alexia met me outside my house. Billy eventually came and he gestured for us to follow him. We did.

He led us to the longest alley in all Poplar Bluffs. At the end of the alley I saw Maddie sitting. I started to run toward her but Billy stopped me. He snapped his fingers and an obstacle course appeared. He said that we had to get thought the obstacle then we could have our stupid dog back. I noticed that his finger was split open I figured Maddie did it.

The first thing we had to climb up a slide filled with slime on it. Luckily I had Maddie's leash, so I threw it up and it got caught so Alexia and I used that to climb up.

Next there was a bridge to cross. I took one step and the board fell. So we had to push ourselves up on the rope to cross.

Next there were very low monkey bars with piranhas and alligators a foot below us. So we crawled over the top.

Next there were swings. We swung across them like they were vines. Then we were at the end we grabbed Maddie and ran.

We got home safely.
