TEEN WEB CLUB
Thanks to the Friends of the Evelyn Goldberg Briggs
Memorial Library and a generous donation from the Goldberg Family, the
Evelyn Goldberg Briggs Memorial Library will host its Teen Web Club
during the summer of 2005.
CLUB MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the Teen Web Club is open to all Middle School aged teens
(6th, 7th, & 8th grades) and High School aged young adults (9th,
10th, & 11th grades) in the library’s service
area, including summer visitors as well as attendees of public school
and home school. All members will be encouraged to submit their original
poems, short stories, and short plays or essays for Web publication
year-round. From the membership, 20-25 specially selected teens and
young adults will attend summer workshops in writing at the library
during the summer of 2004. (See workshop descriptions below.)
Membership applications as well as 2005 summer workshop
applications and literary submission forms for the Teen Web Club are
available at the library and at local public schools.
2005 SUMMER WORKSHOPS
For Teens: Six journalism classes, each 3 hours, will be taught
and supervised by Eric Hjerstedt Sharp, news editor for the County
Journal. Students will learn proper style for newspaper writing, how to
conduct an interview, and will cover a beat while writing pieces for a
summer local teen newspaper: Iron River Teen Times. 3,000 copies
of the Iron River Teen Times will be published and circulated as
part of the July 21 edition of the County Journal. The Iron River Teen
Times will also be published on the Teen Web Club’s Web site:
http://ironriver.wislib.org/
For Young Adults: Six writing classes, each 3
hours, will be taught and supervised by Andrea Tuura, Language Arts
teacher with the School District of Superior. Students will learn the 6
traits of quality writing while creating a “Dragons, Dreams, Daring
Deeds” portfolio from various individual class writing projects.
Students’ writing projects will reflect fantasy, science fiction, and
adventure themes. Samples from each student’s portfolio will be
published on the Teen Web Club’s Web site:
http://ironriver.wislib.org/
The Evelyn
Goldberg Briggs Memorial Library administers the Teen Club Web site and
makes the final decisions about all submissions.
Priority will be given to
Teens living in Iron River and Teens who have and use a Public Library
Card.
